Primus To Honor Rush With ‘A Tribute to Kings’ 2020 Summer Tour

first_imgPrimus will hit the road later this year for an extensive run of summer tour dates which will see the veteran rock outfit pay tribute to their heroes in Rush every night on stage. As per the band’s announcement on Tuesday, Primus’ upcoming A Tribute to Kings Tour (named after Rush’s 1977 A Farewell to Kings studio album) will hear the band play the classic rock album in full at every show when the summer run begins on May 26th in Irving, TX.Each show on the tour will hear the band perform the music featured on A Farewell to Kings–the first Rush album bassist/singer Les Claypool ever heard–in addition to original material out of the Primus songbook. The tour’s name and overall mission also make for a fitting tribute to late Rush drummer Neil Peart, who died unexpectedly earlier this year.Related: Oysterhead, Trey Anastasio Band To Headline SweetWater 420 Fest 2020The upcoming tour will follow the band’s one-off performance in Missoula, MT back in November when it begins in late May. The extensive run of shows will take the band through a long list of North American cities before the tour wraps following a performance at Phoenix, AZ’s Arizona Federal Theatre on August 2nd.Primus will be joined in support throughout the tour on select dates by Wolfmother, The Sword, and Battles.“I talked to Geddy [Lee] about it, yeah. I texted with him — I keep in touch with Geddy — just to make sure we weren’t trodding on something weird,” Claypool said about the upcoming run with the tour’s announcement on Tuesday. “He just got excited; he thought it was a great idea. You know, we go way back with those guys so I think it made him feel good that it was going to be us that was going to do this thing.”Claypool’s other band, The Claypool Lennon Delirium, recently welcomed Geddy Lee to sit in during a recent performance in Toronto last spring.Claypool also touched on the final memory of his old friend and rock colleague in Neil Peart in adding, “The last time I saw Neil was at Stewart Copeland’s house. He had one of his Sacred Grove jams, and it was he and I and Neil and [Tool drummer] Danny Carey, and Matt Stone was there.”A special pre-sale for the tour begins this Wednesday, February 19th, at 10 a.m. local time. Public on-sale will follow starting this Friday, February 21st, at 10 a.m. local. first_img Minister of Transport and Mining, Hon. He said the legislation will be accompanied by regulations to better protect riders and pillions on the roadways. Story Highlights This is part of provisions under the new Road Traffic Act, which was passed in the House of Representatives last November. Minister of Transport and Mining, Hon. Robert Montague, says that motorcycle dealers will be required to have a dealership licence from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries in order to conduct sales. This is part of provisions under the new Road Traffic Act, which was passed in the House of Representatives last November. He said the legislation will be accompanied by regulations to better protect riders and pillions on the roadways.“What we are moving to insist upon is that in the purchase price of the motorbike, a helmet and a vest will be attached. We are insisting on the registration number of the motorcycle being printed on the helmet and the vest as well,” Minister Montague said.“What we want to see are persons in their helmets, because when there is a motorcycle accident, that person has to go to the hospital… with $300,000 to $400,000 to treat that injury,” he added.Mr. Montague was speaking with JIS News at the High Level Symposium for Transport Ministers of the Caribbean Region, held recently at the Iberostar Hotel in Rose Hall, St. James. He said that the Ministry is “getting the Island Traffic Authority (ITA) to be the lead agency, and although the Act has been passed and the regulations are being prepared, there are certain mechanics that have to be put in place”.“We are putting in the Board now and we are recruiting a managing director. It is a groundbreaking legislation; it is new and we are taking our time to get things right,” he noted. The regulations of the new Road Traffic Act are expected to come into effect in short order and will tackle indiscipline as well as enforce law and order on the island’s roadways.last_img read more

Mount Salem ZOSO Extended for 60 Days

center_img The House of Representatives on Tuesday (October 16) approved a resolution extending the Zone of Special Operations (ZOSO) in Mount Salem, St. James, for a period of 60 days. The Resolution was moved by Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, who noted that activities in the community have progressed steadily since its declaration as Jamaica’s first Zone of Special Operations in September 2017.“Today, the high rate of gang-related violence, which previously characterised the community, and the police division by extension, is no longer at the level it was prior to the declaration of the Zone,” he said.“In fact, over the period September 2017 to October 11, 2018, the community experienced no murders or shootings,” he added. The Prime Minister said there is a commitment to sustain the interventions, which will include measures to address violence and steer young men away from gangs.“The social intervention has to be parallel with the security intervention. The intervention has to create an area where people feel secure, that they can have their rights preserved and that there is quick access to a system of justice,” he noted. The State, through the Social Intervention Committee has coordinated the delivery of social services to the community. The interventions have intensified since the transition to the build phase in February 2018.To date, phases one and two of road rehabilitation have been completed and include the rehabilitation of Mount Salem and Barnett View roads. Also some 115 households have had their accounts regularised by the National Water Commission (NWC).In addition, the Mount Salem Primary and Junior High School is to be rehabilitated to include construction of a classroom block; renovation of the sanitation block, kitchen, and existing bathrooms; and undertaking termite treatment for the compound.A new state-of-the-art infant school will be developed, with the project to entail a four-classroom block and bathrooms.
