Android 43 spotted in the wild on a Nexus 4

first_imgIt looks as if someone grabbed the wrong phone when setting up a demonstration at the Thailand Mobile Expo recently. A Nexus 4 with not-quite-right software turned out to be running Android 4.3.One of the big surprises from Google’s recent developer conference, I/O, was a lack of discussion surrounding the next version of Android. In the past, even if Google wasn’t announcing a new version of Android at their conference the company would offer a look at what was next for the platform. This year was all about products that are releasing now, and featured very little about the future of Android. There’s been some speculation that this has to do with a separate release being planned for June, with the latest version of Android being announced during its own special event. This speculation feels a lot more real now, after a Nexus 4 accidentally showed up running the next version of Android.Unless Google was releasing a new phone — which we know they are not right now — any internal testing on the next version of Android would be done on existing hardware. How exactly this particular Nexus 4 made it onto a display shelf is unclear, and it is certainly possible that the information found on these screens are the result of a custom rom geared to fool everyone, but that seems really unlikely given that this phone was found in the middle of a tech expo in Thailand. We still don’t really know much about what is on the way for this next version of Android, but if it is version 4.3, and it is still “Jelly Bean”, it would likely contain only minor changes. What we do know is that Google seem to be quite close to officially announcing the next version of Android, which is potentially exciting for all of the Nexus and Google Edition owners out there.last_img read more
